Rightly Ordered Sports: Putting God First
In a world where sports have become one of the most powerful forces shaping culture, character, and community, we believe they must be rightly ordered under the guidance of Jesus Christ.
Here you will find full access to our Rightly Ordering Sports handbooks: practical, biblical guides designed to help athletes, coaches, parents, and fans align every aspect of athletic life with the Greatest Commandments: To love God with all your heart, soul, and mind; and to love your neighbor as yourself. (Matthew 22:37-39)
The Current State of Sports Without Right Order
Modern sports are a double-edged sword.
On one hand, they build strength, discipline, resilience, teamwork, and joy.
On the other, they have largely been disordered by idolatry (worship of idols, images, or anything other than God).
In sports, the idol is usually in the form of trophies, rings, banners & fame, which leads to misaligned priorities:
Winning at all costs: where victory justifies cheating, performance enhancing drugs, or toxic pressure on young athletes.
Self-glorification: where personal brand, NIL deals, social media fame, or professional contracts eclipse character and integrity.
Exploitation of bodies, time, and families, often leading to burnout, injury, and long term physical and mental harm.
Division and hostility: where opponents become enemies and fans descend into rage or tribalism.
Neglect of the soul: treating the body as a machine for glory while ignoring the God who created it.
Without Christ at the center, even the most talented athletes and successful programs can chase hollow success that ultimately disappoints. Sports become an idol rather than a gift.
Why Rightly Ordered Sports Matter
We were created to glorify God in every area of life, including our athletic pursuits (1 Corinthians 10:31).
The Rightly Ordering Sports handbooks provide targeted guidance for everyone involved in athletics:
Athletes: Learn to steward your body and compete with excellence, integrity, and eternal perspective.
Rightly Ordered Coaching: Dedicated sections that equip coaches to lead with Christlike authority, develop godly character in their athletes, and build team cultures that honor God rather than exploit talent.
Rightly Ordered Parents of Athletes: Practical wisdom for parents on supporting their children without living through them, protecting their hearts from performance idolatry, and raising athletes who love God more than sports.
Fans and Communities: Guidance on enjoying sports without descending into idolatry or hostility.
Our Handbooks will help you:
Steward your body as the temple of the Holy Spirit.
Compete (or lead others) with intensity and integrity.
Love your neighbor (teammates, opponents, and families) as yourself.
Keep sports in its proper place, under the kingship of Christ, not above family, church, or obedience to God.
Use athletics as a platform for the Gospel and lifelong character formation.
Whether you are a youth athlete, college competitor, coach, parent, or weekend warrior, these handbooks will help you experience the full joy of sports while guarding your heart and your household from its common pitfalls.
Christ is King, even on the field, in the gym, in the stands, and on the sidelines.

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.” 1 Corinthians 9:24-27
